Avatar Reduex

So saw Avatar again... just as amazing as the first time. Only this time I saw it in Real-D 3D. It was even better. Well, kinda; it was so much clearer, but, not as epic of scale.
Tomorrow I will post a blog about the difference in viewing.

Howard the Duck

So this is more of a filler review. But, it is also to say that this movie is actually pretty good. When it was originally released, it was hated by many and ruined the careers of most of the cast and crew. The story is about a duck named Howard. One night he is sitting in his living room on Duck World, when all of a sudden is sucked into a vortex type thing that sucks him to Earth. The rest of the movie is just random, sexually innuendo filled, action adventure of him trying to get back home.
The movie is produced by George Lucas, which i bet he dreads to the day, and is far different from his other work. While it is cheesy and campy, it is still fun to watch; just be careful with kids, it has a few sexual things at times.

Christmas Time!

So with Christmas right around the corner, three days to be exact, I thought to get into the spirit more and list some of my favorite Christmas movies.

Christmas Vacation
This is the third Vacation movie in the series starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D' Angelo. It is not only one of the funniest Vacation movie but one of the funniest Christmas movie EVER. It just shows the nutty, screwball side of Christmas and having family home for the holidays.

Scrooged
This is a spin off of A Christmas Carol starring Bill Murray. This is very dark but very funny. It is a different take on the classic tale but succeeds very well. Only recommended if you like dark humor or Bill Murray.

A Christmas Carol (2009)
This is a new adaptation starring Jim Carrey as Scrooge. This has become one of my favorites adaptations of the tale and with Jim's acting, makes it very funny. While it is a Disney movie, it gets very dark, especially when the ghost of Christmas future appears. I highly recommend it, but not for little, little ones.

A Muppet Christmas Carol
It's in the title. This is a Muppet twist on the tale now. This has been a favorite since I was little. Micheal Caine plays Scrooge this time, and does very well. This is more for kids but still is a great one to watch on Christmas even if your an adult.

The Family Stone
While this movie can be pretty sad, it is one of the best ones that shows how families really are and how even though you may fight, you all are still a family. This stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Luke Wilson, Diane Keaton and Craig T Nelson.

It's a Wonderful Life
I, of course, can't forget this timeless classic. It took me a long time to finally appreciate this movie. But, it is shown every year on NBC but so worth watching any other time of the year other than Christmas.

A Christmas Story
This is a great way to end the list. This is a Christmas classic. I wouldn't go as far as to say own it, because it's on all Christmas eve and Christmas day on TBS. But it is so worth watching a couple times while wrapping your last minute gifts or whatever you do. It has classic lines and is just so funny.

* * UPDATE * *
Home Alone and Home Alone 2
This is a classic here. I almost forgot about these two yesterday. These movies star Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern. It is not exactly a 'Christmas' movie, but it does take place on Christmas and it defiantly gets the family and Christmas meaning across. And... they are hysterical movies, with Macaulay Culkin setting up all these traps and watching Joe and Daniel as 'wet bandits' try to catch him. I highly recommend these movies for the entire family on Christmas or any time during the year.

* * By Request * *
Bad Santa
This is being requested to be put up by a fellow reader. While I didn't origanally want this up here, I was trying to stay close to family type movies, I thought i might as well; get some adult humor on here.
This movie stars Billy Bob Thorton as a drunk, nasty, homless looking mall Santa. Him and his elf are actually robbers that go mall to mall stealing things. While this maybe a Christmas movie it is NOT one to watch with family. It is VERY vulgar, it is full of sex, drinking, and cussing. But if you want some Naughty fun this year, rent this one.

Brittany Murphy :(

With yet another recent death of a celebrity, Brittany Murphy, I am going to list a few of her best movies.

8 Mile
She starred in this drama alongside rapper Eminem. Not only is this movie one of my top ten favorites but one of my favorite movies that Brittany is in. She does very well playing Eminem's love interest in the movie. The movie itself, though, is spectacular. After seeing this, I wish that Eminem would act a little more.
But, I do not recommend this to everyone. If you do not like Eminem at all or rap, you will not like this movie.

Just Married
This is one of my all time favorite romantic comedies. It is so quirky and funny, it had me on the ground first time I saw it. Brittany is so funny and cute in this that you just gotta love her! This is also one of favorite movies with Ashton Kutcher. Him and her are perfect on screen in this.

Uptown Girls
Now this movie is so good. It isn't her best, though, it still is funny while also has it's dramatic parts.

Sin City
This is a role that she wasn't in but 20 min of on screen. This is for more of action fans and comic book fans. While this movie is one of the ultimate and best comic book adaptation next to Dark Knight, it has a lot of stars in it. Brittany is great in this movie, but don't recommend it unless you like action.

last but not least,
Spun
One of her earlier roles, this movie also stars John Legizamo. This movie is so spectacular, but it is very dizzying to say the least. It is all about drugs, and it shows what it looks like to be on them. It makes Requiem For A Dream look like Barney. But, with that said, it is a great movie and Brittany is PHENOMENAL in it!

While this is only a select few, there are a few other movies she is in and she shines brightly.
So go check her out.
RIP
Brittany Murphy <3

Avatar

So, after 2hrs and 30 or so min, I am here to give you a complete opinion on 'Avatar'.
First off, I gotta say that so far IMAX has yet to let me down. Their presentation of movies is just phenomenal to say the least. The picture, the sound, the 3D is spectacular (although the glasses are a little uncomfortable) it makes you feel like you are literally right there in the movie it's that good.

Now on to the movie:
Here is a movie that is directed by James Cameron. He has directed such movies as Terminator 1 and 2, True lies, Aliens and best of all, Titanic. Now, while some of you don't care for Titanic as much as I do, you have to look at it from the movie itself, how well it was made. I have have yet to see a James Cameron movie that I disliked to Hated. The only one i could think of is his first movie which was Piranha 2 back in like the 70s.
He takes his time with movies, he makes sure EVERYTHING is just right. He doesn't put out 2 or 3 movies a year just to make a profit. NO.
Avatar for example; he thought up this story when he was a teenager and has been working on it ever since. when he was done with Titanic, he had the opportunity to make it, but said no. He wanted technology of movie making to advance so that he could make it to how he saw it.
Ten years later... the wait is over and well worth it.

The story is, in a world where the Na'vi live, a planet called Pandora, there is a rock that humans want that holds a lot of power and it is worth a lot of money. The problem: the Na'vi live right above where a majority of this rock is. So, they send in a Marine, who takes control of an avatar that looks exactly like one of the Na'vi, to try and become one of them so that he can gain their trust so that he may convince them to leave or else the military will come in and just destroy them and everything else.
I'll let you see it before I say anymore.

This movie was PHENOMENAL! Words can't even begin to describe this movie. I can only say is that this is the 'Gone with the wind' of today. The graphics are supberb, the acting is very well done, the story and the script are fantastic. This movie is so well done that for the 2 hours you are watching, you forget you are even in a theater watching it. The world that is created is so beautiful that you wish you could be there. This isn't some Lucas 'Star Wars' type; no! This is a land so colorful and so full of depth, that you wish were real.

I have read a few reviews already (and watched the South Park episode) and people are saying that the story is unoriginal. That it is JUST like 'Dances With Wolves'. Remember that movie.... neither do I. While yes, the IDEA of a guy becoming one with a new 'tribe' and having to choice between one he came from to one he learns from is identical between the two movies, but how many other movies, though, have you seen these days where movies are their own anymore. Today all we see is remakes, reimaginings, sequels what have you.
All I say is.... go see this and have your breath taken away.

The Beginings

The point of this blog is so that I can give a complete review/opinion on any all movies that i come across. Whether it be old or brand new. My goal of this is to give what I thought of it plus if it is a movie for you.
I have had many, many, many people ask me if they'd like this movie or that movie. I have seen hundreds of hundreds of movies and I always have an opinion.
So to start this off, the first movie I'll put up will be 'Avatar' which comes out Friday. It is a movie that i have been waiting for all year and i think it'll be a good start.
Also... starting Jan 1st, I'm going to start watching one movie a day, maybe two, of my 600+ DVDs and review them.
So, I shall be back on Friday morning after the midnight showing of James Cameron's 'Avatar'
